Elderlearn matches Danish seniors (65+) with newcomers who want to improve their Danish. This creates well-being, joy and content for the senior and supports the rehabilitative efforts. At the same time, it increases the integration opportunities for the newcomer. Participation is free of charge for both parties, as municipalities and foundations pay for Elderlearn to establish an agreed initiative in the municipality.
HOW ELDERLEARN WORKS:
- Seniors and newcomers sign up on Elderlearn.dk
- We match the best couples based on distance, background and interests
- Once a couple is matched, they are both notified and meet at the senior’s house
- We receive ongoing feedback on how the match is progressing
Meetings are scheduled once a week for a minimum of one hour. However, it is up to the participants to decide how often and for how long they want to meet. To ensure a safe and good first meeting, Elderlearn is in close dialog with the participants. In addition, conversation topics are sent for the first meetings. Criminal records are obtained from newcomers who will be visiting seniors.
