Active ageing and climate action through the involvement of senior citizens in nature conservation

Grey4Green is an Erasmus+ project that aims to promote active ageing and contribute to climate action through the involvement of senior citizens in nature conservation volunteering programs and through the capacity of personnel working in the third age sector to develop and implement such programs.

The second Learning, Teaching and Learning Activity of the Grey4Green project will take place in Strasbourg, France during the last week of September 2023. It will be a great opportunity for participants who want to implement environmental volunteering programmes for senior citizens.

News from the Project

The Grey4Green consortium met for its third transnational project meeting and the first training activity took place
From the 9th until the 12th of May, Cyprus received 20 key stakeholders in the topic of volunteering to provide training that encouraged them to find opportunities for senior volunteers. Simultaneously, the project consortium met for its third transnational meeting. A week full of surprises for the participants and the consortium!
Introducing Citizen Science through the Intergenerational Approach
In the framework of the Grey4Green project, the Municipality of Lousada has promoted a worldwide citizen action called BioBlitz, related to the search for the local biodiversity and recording it by using an application-iNaturalist (BioDiversity4All). It involves the participation of senior citizens and children, breaking down the barriers between generations.

The Iceland Conservation Volunteer (ICV) programme has started!
The Icelandic Conservation Volunteers (ICV) programme started on the 4th of June. During the training week, the 16 new volunteers will learn about nature conservation in Iceland, path building and maintenance and team dynamics.
Sit-In for Climate Change
On May 13th, Bedsteforældres Klima Aktion (BK, Grandparents for Climate Action) held a silent sit-in for the climate in the heart of Aarhus. Both grandparents and their grandchildren made their own placards, expressing what they felt about the urgency of doing something to reverse climate change.
