From January 23rd to 26th 2024, the Municipality of Lousada hosted the first Senior Exchange as part of the Grey4Green project. Seniors from Iceland, Denmark and Portugal came together for a unique and enriching journey dedicated to environmental conservation, civic participation, and active ageing. They acquired technical knowledge on nature conservation and volunteerism, contributing to a greener world.
Second International Exchange of the Grey4Green Project in Aarhus: raising their voice
From April 9th to 12th 2024, seniors from Iceland and Portugal met their Danish peers for the 2nd Senior Mobility Exchange. Seniors from the Danish organization “Grandparents’ Climate Action” (Bedsteforældrenes klimaaktion Århus) gave insights on their activity and involved the other international seniors in it. Through their leadership-by-example approach, they energized other seniors and taught them their methods on how to prepare and act for the climate, especially in front of state institutions. The seniors went back to their home countries with new knowledge and another valuable experience.
Third and Final International Exchange of the Grey4Green Project in Iceland: a volcanic experience
From May 28th to 31st 2024, seniors from Denmark, Iceland and Portugal met for the 3rd and final Senior Mobility Exchange. Among the different lectures and presentations, the seniors took part in different activities, such as beach cleaning and birdwatching along the coastline of Iceland and managing the Laugarás protected area. What was not planned was to get an eruption while the seniors were in Iceland! That made the exchange unforgettable.

Seniors plogging in Lousada
In Lousada, senior volunteers recently engaged in an environmental initiative based on the concept of plogging, where they combined jogging with litter collection. The group of seniors collected over 50 kg of trash from local streets, raising community awareness about environmental issues, especially pollution.
